Popular Sovereignty
This principle says that the people are in charge of the government. The idea comes from the belief that the government should benefit its citizens, so the citizens have the power to change anything in the government they want, because we hold all political power, not the government.
An example of this was during the civil war, the country split due to different ideals to lead the country. This prevents leaders from becoming corrupt or from having too much power. In the U.S, we exercise this with elections.
